About this blog

This blog is designed to let you find out more about the indigenous Cofan people of Ecuador by talking to them yourself. You can interact with young members and leaders of the Cofan community by posting messages to them and exchanging experiences.

Members of the Cofan Youth Association (Ajonce) will shortly be adding entries to this blog to give you an idea of their day to day lives and the challenges which they face. You can write to them by adding a comment below. Feel free to ask them about their struggle with the oil industry, their traditions, education, spirituality , or any other topic you want to explore or share.

The Cofans and the blog coordinator will also send open questions to the bloggers to open the debate and keep the blog as dynamic as possible. Sometimes we will also write brief articles to give you some background information. So please check our recent posts ans categories. We are looking forward to hear your comments!!

Cofan young people at the inoperative Dureno oil well

Friends of the Earth Scotland continues its support for the Cofan Indigenous People in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Our aim is to sensitize our members and the wider public about the links between Oil, Climate Change, and communities living close to oil production areas. The Cofans are on the brink of cultural and biological extinction, but we are working with the young members of the community empowering them to be advocates for their culture and rights.
